THE STORY:
A note from Michelle --
I was inspired when Kelsey joined Team Eye and Ear in December and when the opportunity arose for me to join her and the team I knew I needed to be part of it. I remember clearly May 2, 2014 and meeting Dr. Deschler and knowing Larry was in the best hands possible at MEEI. There was a plan and we would tackle it head on together. Now Kelsey and I have a plan to raise money, train and run in the 119th Boston Marathon on April 20th in honor of Larry! I am running to express my gratitude for all that was done for my husband and to show support to all head and neck cancer patients and their families in the hope of finding a cure!
A note from Kelsey --
Last April my Dad was diagnosed with neck cancer. I can remember getting that phone call from him explaining that his test results came back and a tumor found in one of his lymph nodes in his neck was cancerous. This was the scariest day of my life. The unknown of how bad it was, or what was going to happen to him was the worst feeling and everyone in my family was experiencing this. It was not until my Dad met with Dr. Deschler who specializes in head and neck surgical oncology at MEEI that we all could breathe just a little easier. I remember my Dad quoting him after his first appointment saying, “this is just going to be a speed bump in your life.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In May Larry had surgery at MEEI to remove the tumor. After he recovered from the surgery, he went through seven weeks of radiation and chemotherapy at Mass General. Larry is always on the go and working on some project, so it was hard to see him not quite himself through all of this. He of course did not let his treatment totally take him down. He continued to work and spend as much time as he could with our family and enjoy the most of his summer.
Thanks to Dr. Deschler and everyone at MEEI, we are so happy to say that he got over the speed bump and today is cancer free. Larry will always be a patient of Dr. Deschler at MEEI, where he will get routine scans to make sure the cancer does not come back. We are so honored to have the opportunity to run the 2015 Boston Marathon for Team Eye and Ear as a way to give back and say thank you for all that they have done for Larry.
Thank you for your support!!
