THE STORY:
I am excited to be running my second Boston Marathon, and proud to be running it again with Team Eye and Ear!
Last year's experience was phenomenal, and rewarding in many ways. It was an epic day for me, for the City of Boston, and for the world. I learned that I actually enjoy long distance running, and successfully finished my first ever marathon in 3:34, feeling great. I learned that I have many truly amazing friends, who were there for me with the much needed moral support during training, and more importantly with generous gifts to support Mass Eye and Ear. I already knew I had an amazingly supportive extended family, and I am ever so appreciative of the support of my hubby and my five children. With everyone's help, I succeeded in raising over $34,000 for eye research at MEEI! I continue to learn more about Mass Eye and Ear from the inside, and am increasingly impressed with the ground-breaking research that is giving hope to people around the world.
I qualified for the 2015 Boston Marathon and received my own bib, but I could not imagine running without Team Eye and Ear. I am honored to serve as a trustee at MEEI, carrying on the Ankeny family legacy (and proud that my father is still an active member of the Board). Innovative techniques pioneered by MEEI doctors saved the vision of several family members in the past, and for that I am grateful. This is my opportunity to give back to an amazing institution, raising awareness of all the good things going on right now, while raising funds for all the great and promising things to come. There are currently some very some very exciting developments in vision care research in particular, which is where I would like to dedicate my fundraising efforts.
PLEASE JOIN ME IN SUPPORTING MASS EYE AND EAR BY MAKING A DONATION TODAY. My personal goal is to raise $20,000 for eye research. Just click on the "Donate" button to the right. If you prefer to send a check, make it payable to "Foundation of Mass Eye and Ear" and mail it to me directly at 16 Waldron Street, Marblehead, MA 01945.
Thank you for your support! Knowing that friends believe in me and my cause makes the training that much easier. I will keep running (go away, snow!), and together we can make a difference at Mass Eye and Ear!
