As part of the ING NYC Marathon's "$1 Million Per Mile" campaign, I am proud to be running the ING NYC Marathon -- my 64th marathon! -- in support of I Challenge Myself. Read all about it and give early, give often!
I Challenge Myself’s mission is to help young people lead healthier and more productive lives through endurance fitness challenges and leadership development.
Launched in February 2005, I Challenge Myself has developed two health-based youth development programs: Cycling Smarts focuses on character development through fitness and the Urban Youth Health Ambassadors focuses on service learning. To date, I Challenge Myself has directly served over 500 public high school students in the Bronx, Washington Heights, Harlem and Bushwick, and indirectly, over 600 1st to 12th graders in the Bronx and Washington Heights.
I Challenge Myself is also helping to increase students’ readiness to attend college and the workforce through our newly launched College Bike Tour summer program. The majority of students I Challenge Myself serves are first generation Americans, and many will be the first in their families to graduate from college.
