Hello, I am Sam. I just joined Crowdrise after watching Edward Norton's appearance on one of the Late Night Shows. I started a Project to support Advita Fund USA, which helps children from Russia and former Soviet Union republics gain access to Cancer treatments that are not available to them.
I am originally from St. Petersburg, Russia and have been living in US for 21 years. I still go back to visit my friends and relatives every year. It really saddens me to see that even though the country has dramatically evolved after the break-up of Soviet Union, people do not have the access nor the means to the latest innovations in medical technology. Many people think of serious diseases as their death sentence without any hope for proper treatment. Average salary in the country does not permit people to get tested in order to be properly diagnosed and receive treatment. Majority of patients are forced to seek treatment overseas in countries like Germany and U.S., which is very expensive. Corruption among healthcare providers in Russia and other CIS countries have reached ridiculous heights, and bribery for medical procedures became a standard practice.
My goal on Crowdrise is to try to help Advita Fund USA and other charities to raise money for great causes and for people that really need all the help they can get.
