BENEFITING: Brigham and Women's Hospital
ORGANIZER: Brigham and Women's Hospital
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
THE STORY:
On April 15, 2013, my friend Gillian Reny was one of the many innocent bystanders critically injured at the finish line in the Boston Marathon bombings. Gillian was rushed to Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), where doctors and nurses heroically saved both of her legs. Today, Gillian is thriving as a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania.
Although I now live in New York City, I still consider Boston my home. After the bombs went off at the finish line in 2013 I felt an overwhelming urge be home. Despite the city's lockdown, I jumped on a flight to Boston to spend the weekend with my family and the Renys. I am honored to be running the 2015 Boston Marathon to raise money for the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Fund at BWH.
This winter I have been dealing with IT Band Syndrome, so I have spent countless hours in spinning classes and on the elliptical. I’ve worn Kinesio tape, added strength and stretching to my exercise program, and have even swum a few times in order to keep my fitness up. It’s worked; on March 15th I ran the NYC half marathon and am confident I can cross the finish line in April.
Now I need your help to reach my $5,000 fundraising goal. All gifts will be matched 1 for 1, so your contribution will go twice as far. I hope I can count on you to support my second Boston Marathon by contributing to this very special cause.
Thank you in advance for your support and I hope that you will come out to watch me run on April 20, 2015!
