Red Wolves are among the most endangered animals in North America. About 130 of these rare and beautiful animals roam free in northeastern North Carolina, the only place in the world they live and hunt and raise their families..
The Red Wolf Coalition, in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Red Wolf Recovery Team, works to restore these magnificent predators. This year, 2012, marks the 25th anniversary of the reintroduction of red wolves to the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. We celebrate this event with great joy and pride because the red wolf was functionally extinct in the wild by 1980, a victim of habitat loss and persecution.
Hope is born of small things, and a new crop of pups is being born now in the lowlands of northeastern North Carolina. Please help the Red Wolf Coalition ensure a bright future for this endangered but resilient animal. Thank you for caring!
Happy anniversary, red wolves!
