Since I was a junior in High School, I have participated in service projects around my own home. The first year I traveled nine hours the West Virginia, Kentucky boarder to help the under served I was faced with the unfortunate truth that there are many people in the world who need charity in order to improve their way of life by fixing roofs, floors, electrical, plumbing, and many other house-hold commodities I took for granted for many years.
I was given a dose of perspective I could never forget and I continued to return, year after year, to help the community and do what I could to help those wonderful people who were thankful for even the smallest of tasks that we were able to do for them.
This year I saw the Hope 2 Haiti project and thought how wonderful it sounded and how I wished I would be able to participate. At first, I looked at the dates and pushed it aside because it coincided with the end of the school year. In a bit of sheer luck, I overheard one of my assistant principal's discussing the end of the year and that, since winter had been so mild and we have yet to use a snow day, school will be ending on June 8th. My thoughts immediately went to the Hope 2 Haiti project and realized that I can, indeed, participate! Winter was mild, there are no snow days, and now I can do my absolute best to raise the $5,000 needed to fly to Haiti and offer my services to a country still struggling from the after affects of the earthquake two years ago.
Please help me raise the funds I need to participate in this wonderful charity event! It is truly the chance of a lifetime and I can't do it without the aid and assistance of others.
