AGUA Program

Support an expanding urban agriculture apprenticeship program for Chicago's youth!

Who We Are: 

Started in 2012, The Genesis Project is the economic and community development branch of A Just Harvest, a community-led non-profit that addresses hunger and poverty within the Rogers Park and greater-Chicago area.  

The Genesis Project's Above Ground Urban Agriculture (AGUA) program was developed to engage and address the needs of the neighborhood's youth and young adults. AGUA interns - 18 to 26 year olds - complete a six-month training in A Just Harvest's greenhouse and community gardens, learning basic gardening skills and aquaponics system construction and maintenance. Supplemental classroom sessions address business development, marketing, and financial literacy. After three months, interns are eligible for a stipend. 

 

Our Track Record:

In AGUA's first two years, 16 of 18 interns have either returned to school or joined the workforce!
