AGUA is expanding, and through your support, we hope to secure funding for a new at-home aquaponics program!
What exactly is aquaponics?
Aquaponics is a food producing system that combines aquaculture (the cultivation of fish) and hydroponics (growing plants in water, rather than soil). The fish are kept in a bottom tank. This water is pumped up to be used as fertilizer for plants that grow in a top tank. The fish waste in aquaponics serves as a natural fertilizer. Used indoors, aquaponics are able to produce fresh food all year round!
The at-home aquaponics program - headed by AGUA's interns - will involve a series of informational workshops, educating families and individuals in aquaponics construction, fish maintenance, seeds, planting, and overall care! This program will allow families to grow fresh food at home while reducing grocery expenses!
Our goal is to provide all aquaponics system materials for 30 program participants to get the program under way - and we'd love your help!
