Running the LA Marathon and fundraising on behalf of April Bruno and the National Transplant Assistance Fund Spinal Cord Injury Fund. April, a wife and mother of two boys, was paralyzed in a car accident in 2005. She was hospitalized for 6 months. In 2007, her marriage dissolved. She has faced huge physical, emotional, and financial challenges. Our goal; there are five of us completing LA together, is to help her improve physically by providing needed therapeutic equipment (picture of the TR300 FES cycle attached), financially by assisting with care and medical expenses, and emotionally by removing as much as possible the worries about her future. (FYI: As April was a stay at home mom, she did not receive compensation in her own name and consequently, does NOT qualify for any form of government assistance. Mortgage, health insurance, and caregiving expenses are monumental. She lives very frugally and is SO grateful for the generous help she has received from friends, both old and new! For those of you in Amgen, please remember the Amgen gift-match. The NTAF tax ID is 52-1322317. This will be my fourth marathon in 16 months and hope to break 3:30 for the first time (my Boston qualifying time) and raise more than $3,000 for April.
