Hungerthon/Imagine There's No Hunger is an annual campaign organized by WhyHunger to make a difference in the lives of the 50 million Americans and nearly billion people worldwide for whom hunger is an everyday reality.
Founded in 1975 by Bill Ayres, Harry Chapin and Pete Fornatale, Hungerthon brings a month of exclusive online auctions, events, social media activation and broadcasts that culminate in a Radiothon – this year airing on Saturday December 8th and Wednesday December 12th on numerous satellite and tri-state area radio stations, including SiriusXM Satellite Radio; CBS Radio Group: Sports Radio 66 WFAN, WCBS Newsradio 880, 101.1 WCBS-FM and more. Plus, the more money our Hungerthon team raises by November 27th, the better chance we have of winning the Martha Stewart Thanks for Giving Challenge! First place prize is $25,000. Second place is $15,000. Third place is $10,000.
WHO WILL BENEFIT
By donating to and fundraising for Hungerthon 2012, you are helping to make a difference in the lives of the 50 million Americans and nearly billion people worldwide for whom hunger is an everyday reality. Proceeds from the campaign will be donated directly to WhyHunger to benefit local grassroots partners, including the Pathfinder Academy in Kenya; the Pattanarak Foundation in Thailand; City of Joy in India; Tohono O'odham Community Action in Sells, Arizona and the Peasant Movement of Papaye (MPP) in Haiti. Each grassroots partner focuses on children living in poverty and helps teach sustainable farming and entrepreneurial skills for the future. Additionally, donations made to Hungerthon 2012 will support WhyHunger's long-time partners in the New York and New Jersey area post Hurricane Sandy. These organizations are on the front lines, providing food, water and critical services to their neighbors in the aftermath of the storm adn aiding in their long term recovery.
