Elephants Need Ele-fences!

THE STORY:
Help us welcome three new elephants to retirement! The Elephant Sanctuary is now providing refuge and long-term care for Hadari (age 33), Rosie (age 44) and Sukari (age 31) after collaborating with Nashville Zoo and Hadari’s owners on retirement. These African elephants will have the opportunity - after decades in captivity - to live in an expansive habitat that promotes a range of natural behaviors, with the companionship of herd and individualized care for life. They join Flora (age 33) and Tange (age 42) in The Sanctuary’s Africa Habitat.
Sixty acres are currently fenced in Africa Habitat, with an additional 240 acres of woods and hills available. Our fencing expansion plan would create new areas for Flora, Tange, Rosie, Hadari and Sukari to roam, giving them more trees to knock down and wildlife to chase.
African elephants make a savannah of their habitat, and they require a different type of fencing than the Asian elephants. African ele-fences are expensive -- $100 per linear foot! -- and we need your help to enlarge this area of Sanctuary. The more money we raise, the larger the area we can open up for the elephants. Exploring a more expansive habitat will help them develop healthy and natural behaviors.
