Our 2 mile hike, in Sharon, MA, supports the important work of the MPN Research Foundation (MPNRF). The MPNRF has been involved in every significant Myeloproliferative Neoplasm(MPN) breakthrough, including Myelofibrosis.
In 2014, HikeMF founder, Julie Rittenburg Libon, was diagnosed with a Myeloproliferative Neoplasm (MPN). MPNs are a related group of rare blood cancers that include Myelofibrosis, Essential Thrombocythemia and Polycythemia Vera.
THERE IS NO CURE!
The MPN, Myelofibrosis (MF) affects between 16,000 -18,000 people in the United States. According to several studies, the median life expectancy is 5-7 years from diagnosis.
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE FIND A CURE!
Julie and her family quickly learned that there are limited research funds for MPNs. They chose to become proactive and HikeMF was formed. HikeMF raises funds to advance MPN research, including myelofibrosis, with the hope that a cure will be found.
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
There are many inspirational people living with MPNs, including Myelofibrosis. Some are trailblazers who have entered a drug trial with the hope that it will be the cure or treatment desperately needed, some are out of hope and saying their goodbyes and some are in the watch and wait stage, with no treatments or trials available. All are hoping for a cure!
WITH RESEARCH THERE IS HOPE!
In memory and in honor of all those affected by MPNs, including Myelofibrosis, we at HikeMF will continue hiking until a cure is found.
