THE STORY:
On April 15, 2013, JP Craven, from Hingham, MA, was standing 12 feet from the first bomb, waiting for his father, Joe Craven, to cross the finish line. JP was knocked unconscious, with shrapnel hitting him throughout, but especially the right side of his face. The heat of the blast set his clothes on fire and severely damaged his right ear - and the blast permanently took away some of his hearing. Thankfully, JP was taken to Boston Medical Center where the great doctors did emergency surgery that night, extracting the shrapnel which nearly pierced his skull. After several more surgergies, he was released the following Saturday. Over the course of the year, with the support of so many - including St. Sebastian's, the people of Hingham,, and his Davidson College baseball teammates, JP recovered well - and we feel very fortunate.
JP's Team was formed in 2014 to support the great work of Boston Medical Center - and had 8 runners participate - including JP himself, his father and his sister, Deirdre. JP's Team raised over $126,000 for BMC - and when combined with our runners - raised almost $170,000. So, we decided to do it again in 2015 - with 15 runners, including repeat runners - JP's father and sister - JP's girlfriend, Kelli O'Donohue and with the support of runners from BlackRock's Boston office - where JP's father works. Last year, the team raised almost $220,000 for BMC - for a two year total of almost $400,000. We're gearing up to do it again in 2016 - this time with 26 runners from across the US (Boston, NY, Princeton, SF) - all with the singular commitment to support JP's Team and the hospital that was there for JP back in 2013.
We need your help again. Boston Medical Center is the glue that keeps the City of Boston going. It is Boston's only public hospital - and provides Exceptional Care, Without Exception to many who are underserved and the community as a whole. Please join with us - and root for us on April 18th. Thank you.
