The Woodward Avenue Action Association (WA3) plans, advocates and collaborates to implement enhancements for M 1, the 27-mile nationally recognized All American Road from the Detroit River to the loop in Pontiac. As the birthplace of the automobile industry, Woodward is rich in globally significant heritage resources reflecting innovation and creativity such as the first mile of concrete highway, the first three-color traffic light to Henry Ford’s moving assembly line and the industrial plant that paid $5 A-Day wage that launched Americas’ middle class.
The WA3 is:
· Branding the All American Road with solar powered 30’ interpretive towers depicting Woodward’s heritage
· Created and working to implement the nation’s largest Complete Streets plan making design improvements to the 27-mile road to create a sense of place and accommodate all users – cyclists, pedestrians, transit, and of course the automobile.
· Preserving and redeveloping the Ford Highland Park Plant – the birthplace of industrial mass production
· Packaging the automobile heritage resources to create a world class cultural/heritage travel destination.
