My name is Avery and I am a 17 yr old girl who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. CF is a life-threatning, genetic disorder that causes the body to produce large amounts of mucus that mainly affects the lungs and pancreas, but in fact, affect many other organs too. In the lungs, mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria that leads to infections that damage the lungs. This leads to respiratory failure and what is called end-stage lung disease. I am currently in end-stage lung disease now. Due to my condition, I am in desperate need of a bilateral double lung transplant. I have had to temporarily relocate to St Louis, MO from Florida, where I have had to leave my family and friends behind. The reason why I am setting up this fund is to help my dad with all the medical bills, moving expenses, and the cost of my surgery. Just my transplant alone costs over 1 million dollars. As some of you know, Manny (Lolita) DeSousa was struck by a car in Boston on Friday, December 4th and remains in serious condition. She has sustained serious head, brain, and face trauma. Because of the extent of her injuries, Manny has a long road ahead of her. Anyone who knows her, knows that Manny is beautiful inside and out. Our goal is to have the focus remain on her recovery and not on how her and her family will pay the high cost of the care she is receiving and will continue to receive for the foreseeable future. Manny has touched so many lives and this is our chance to show support in her fight to full recovery.
