As an 8 year member of NAMI (National Alliance On Mental Illness) Leadership Alliance I am dedicated to raising awareness and funding to end the stigma of mental illness. 1 in 17 people have a major mental illness and 1 in 4 people will deal with a mental health disorder.
Due to a lack of funding and funding cuts, most of the mentally ill are in jails and prisons for minor infractions instead of getting help that they need in hospitals. It costs 3 times more to keep them in jail than to make certain they are getting the help they so desperately need outside of jail.
