21 Plus, Inc. (www.21plus.org) is a not for profit organization based in Toms River that has been providing opportunities for people with disabilities since 1979.  These opportunities include group homes, day programs, supported employment, and family support services.  21 Plus is proud of the quality of the programs and the strong emphasis placed on being part of the local community.

However, being part of the community means maintaining safe beautiful homes and programs.  We believe that being a good neighbor makes an important statement and demonstrates that 21 Plus respects and cares about the people who live and work in its programs.

The people who reside at 21 Plus group homes look forward to this time of the year, when they can paint their bedrooms, buy a new pair of curtains, plant some flowers, buy a patio set, or replace a kitchen set that’s worn out.  Years ago, these requests were satisfied with our funding from the state of New Jersey.   We used to call this the “wish list”.  Now it’s referred to as the “needs list”.

The current list totals $75,000!  The major funding source for the 21 Plus group homes is the state Division of Developmental Disabilities. Home repairs and furniture replacement are not included in the state funds.  We have taken care of some of the needs through grants.  However, due to heavy usage and the aging of some items, the list is impossible to exhaust.

Can you help us make the homes and programs at 21 Plus look their best?  Can you help us replace worn out furniture and floors?  Can you help us be good neighbors by keeping our homes in good repair?  Here are a few examples of the items needed:

• Patio furniture
• Deck repairs
• Fencing
• Bathroom vanities
• Flooring/carpeting
